Natale e le sue tradizioni

In Italy, the Christmas period is perhaps one of the most anticipated of the year: the streets light up with beautiful glittering decorations, the Christmas tree is decorated and families get together, exchanging gestures of affection and gifts.

And in the rest of Europe? Here are some of the most particular traditions!

In England, for example, children usually open the socks first, and then the gifts: a different tradition from the Italian one, right? The menu is also truly unique: stuffed roast turkey accompanied by vince pies and Christmas Pudding as a dessert.

Moving on in Spain, we would see that the gifts are not exchanged on 25 December, but on 6 January with the arrival of the Three Kings in the city, on decorated floats and distributing sweets.

In Poland instead, the particularity is linked above all to the moment of lunch: on Christmas Eve, the delicacies of the table are consumed only after having seen the first star in the sky, and the Oplatek biscuit is offered at the beginning of the meal, which shows the image of Mary, Joseph and Jesus: a truly particular and significant tradition.

Countries like instead in Germany the celebrations begin already in November, on St. Martin's day, with beautiful processions of children who illuminate the cities with their lanterns!

Even in Netherlands It is a tradition that already in November a beautiful Christmas atmosphere spreads, thanks to the entry into the cities of St. Nicholas (called Sinterklaas) with his assistant Zwarte Pieten, very often riding a beautiful white horse.

Flying in instead Denmark, we can find in the decorated houses a special garland made up of 4 candles that are lit every Sunday before Christmas, one at a time. Curious isn't it?
