WHY IN VENICE?
Venice and Murano have been populated since the beginning by peoples fleeing the region, due to internal conflicts within the region itself; thanks then especially to the siege of Constantinople, immigrants from eastern areas arrived here and brought with them a heritage of truly inestimable value: their glass working skills.
In 1291 it was decided that all the furnaces in the city were transferred to the island of Murano, due to the lower risk of fires but above all - a theory that is considered the most obvious - to to enclose all the wisdom of the glass masters on a single island, in a detached world. Interesting, right? Murano thus became the first industrial area in the world, 500 years before the Industrial Revolution in Europe!
PERLINE ROCAILLES
The Rocaille bead of Murano represented, until 1900, a production of great prestige and a symbol of undoubted wealth for Murano. Used in embroidery and weaving, as well as in the creation of sparkling jewels, they were characterized by their very small size - little more than the head of a needle! Furthermore, the technique was also really innovative: in fact the glass was literally "pulled", in order to produce many more beads in less time. A truly unique process, which was born in Murano!
